Getac’s Best Just Got Better: Company Upgrades Flagship X500 Ultra Rugged Notebook and X500 Rugged Mobile Server

Getac Inc., a leading innovator and manufacturer of rugged computers that meet the demands of field-based applications, is upgrading its flagship X500 ultra rugged notebook and X500 rugged mobile server. The Getac X500 notebook and X500 Server deliver best-in-class performance with Intel® CoreTM i7 processors, available discrete graphics, and 64GB memory, while a host of I/O and expansion options provide an unmatched level of purpose-built versatility for military installations and public safety agencies. A complete multi-layer security solution takes full advantage of advanced Windows 10 security and multifactor authentication options, while a hot swappable battery design, ultra-rugged construction, and an unprecedented 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty place the Getac X500 and X500 Server among the most powerful, mobile and rugged solutions available.

“The Getac X500 notebook and X500 Server are the most powerful ultra-rugged devices we have ever made,” explains Scott Shainman, president of Getac. “With a 56% increase in performance from the previous generation and robust multi-layer security features added, X500 remains the most powerful, rugged mobile solution for complex military and field deployments in extreme environments.”

Today, organizations are more vulnerable than ever to data theft and malicious attacks. Getac has made this priority-one by delivering a complete security solution on the X500 and X500 Server that takes full advantage of advanced Windows 10 security. TPM 2.0 monitors and protects system start-ups to ensure the device is tamper-free before releasing control to the operating system, while BitLocker protects data at rest, in use and in transit. Multifactor authentication options, such as password protection and SmartCard reader, work in tandem with Microsoft Windows 10 identity protection features, including Microsoft Passport, for additional protection. In the event that the system is ever stolen, optional Absolute DDS will allow it to be disabled remotely.

The X500 Ultra-Rugged Notebook

The next-generation X500 ultra rugged notebook is equipped with a host of best-in-class features including a 7th generation Intel Core vPro Quad Core HQ processor, up to 64GB DDR4 memory, Intel® HD Graphics 630 (with available NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M discrete graphics) and the latest 802.11ac WiFi. Its 15.6-inch full HD (1920x1080) sunlight-readable display (1000 nits) is among the largest in the industry and provides ample real estate for handling multiple tasks simultaneously, with minimal scrolling. An optional resistive touchscreen supports rain, glove and pen touch capability. Getac’s exclusive QuadraClear® direct bonding technology decreases reflectivity and increases screen readability, even in direct sunlight, for greater field productivity. The full-sized keyboard is backlit red to avoid silhouetting, an essential feature for officer safety and covert operations.

The Getac X500 offers incomparable I/O options and expandability, including two gigabit Ethernet ports, two RS232 serial ports, four USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI, External VGA, Microphone, Audio Output, Docking Connector, and optional RF antenna pass-through for GPS, WLAN, and WWAN. The optional expansion chassis can support either two full-length PCI cards or PCE-Express 3.0 cards for extreme customization needs. The notebook’s media expansion bay provides room for a second hot swappable battery or additional storage capacity.

The X500's ruggedness has passed military MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461G certifications for drops up to 3 feet. It is IP65-certified for dust and water resistance and can be deployed in extreme temperature environments ranging from -4˚F to 131˚F.

The X500 Rugged Mobile Server

Based on the X500’s main body, the new X500 Server also incorporates performance and security upgrades, but adds the OS, increased storage capacity, stability and advanced features of a full server platform, in a form factor that resembles a rugged briefcase to become one of the most powerful, portable, and ultra-rugged servers you can get for deployment in remote and extreme environments.

Performance and reliability begin with several best-in-class features including Intel’s Xeon® Processor E3-1505M v6 with 8MB Intel® Smart Cache for faster computing and CPU performance with reduced power consumption. Standard NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M discrete graphics deliver the power to drive graphics-intensive applications, and a hot swappable battery design provides maximum uptime in the field.

The X500 rugged mobile server is powered by Microsoft Windows Server 2016, which provides network load balancing, fault tolerance and server clustering technologies that work to guarantee system reliability and uptime. Optional ECC (Error Correcting Code) memory helps to preserve the integrity of your data by detecting and correcting single-bit memory errors. Equipped with two gigabit Ethernet ports, the X500 mobile server provides expandability through server cluster deployments and is capable of hosting multiple, independent virtual machine platforms, which reduces or eliminates the need to invest in multiple sets of server systems to achieve the same result. And by combining Windows Server 2016 with Microsoft Hyper-V technology, it has the flexibility to change the system resources so IT administrators can easily allocate resources among the different virtual systems to meet specific user needs.

The X500 Server supports a maximum of 6TB of storage, with 5TB available for RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) level 0, 1 and 5 configurations, providing mission-critical data optimization, redundancy and disk management flexibility.

The X500 notebook and X500 Server are backed by Getac’s industry-best, five-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, which includes damage that occurs due to accidents and environmental exposure.
